Doctrinal Commitment

Westminster Seminary California believes without reservation that the Bible is the very Word of God. God has inspired the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as his infallible and inerrant revelation. These Scriptures alone are the source of truth for the faith and life of Christians and of the church.

Our students study the Bible with reverence and care because we believe that the Word of God is the bread of life. Only through preaching and teaching that exalt the saving work of Christ and apply the Scriptures specifically to life will Christians grow and flourish.

We are committed to and guided by the great confessions of the Reformation era. We believe that they faithfully summarize the teaching of Scripture and connect us to the wisdom of the church in ages past. One of the besetting sins of the modern world is the belief that today we are wiser than those who have come before. We reject such a notion and prize the invaluable presentations of the faith contained in our confessions. We believe and teach confessional Reformed Christianity because that is what the Scriptures teach and what the church needs.

We have also prepared two documents – “Testimony to our Time” and “Our Testimony on Justification” – that speak to some specific issues faced by Christians in our day. We want to be clear about where we stand on these issues at Westminster Seminary California. Part of our sense of accountability to the church is a commitment to honest communication about what we believe and teach here.
