This month, our featured graduate is Bryce
Waller, who graduated this past May.
I was first attracted to Westminster Seminary California (WSC)
by two of its products. While living in Barcelona, Spain
after college I met two WSC graduates who were serving as
pastors of the only Protestant church in the village where I
lived. Immediately I was impressed with their knowledge of
the Scriptures, their ability to communicate the gospel
clearly and passionately in preaching and teaching, as well
as their love for Christ and his people. As I developed a
closer friendship with these men, I realized more and more
that they had something I wanted. So when I began
considering theological education, there was really no
question in my mind where to attend.
Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed in my choice. The
Lord has used both the faculty and my colleagues to provide
me with the skills I will need to lead in the church. One of
the most important things I have learned during my time here
is the paramount importance of getting the gospel right.
Over the past four years I have learned what it truly means
to be saved by grace alone through faith in Christ alone,
and, more importantly, I have become deeply convinced of the
importance of preaching that message to God’s people each
week from all the Scriptures. Regardless of the department –
biblical studies, systematics, historical or practical
theology – the message of the gospel of grace has been the
constant theme of my studies at Westminster Seminary
California.
After graduation, I will be spending a year serving at Rocky
Mountain Community Church (PCA) in Billings, Montana as a
pastoral intern, preaching, teaching, and receiving further
training from the leaders there. After that, my wife Lisa
and I desire to bring the gospel to the Spanish-speaking
world either among the growing Latino population here in the
U.S. or back in Spain where the church is virtually
non-existent. Regardless of the context to which the Lord
calls me, I know that I will have the tools I need to
“rightly divide the word of truth” and proclaim Christ and
him crucified to the praise of his glory.
