Dr. Hart is Director for Partnered Projects at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute in
Wilmington, Delaware. Prior to this he taught church history
and served as academic dean at Westminster Seminary
California for three years. He directed the Montgomery
Memorial Library and taught church history at Westminster
Theological Seminary from 1993 to 2000. He also served as
editor of the Westminster Theological Journal. Before
working in Reformed theological education, Dr. Hart directed
the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals and
taught American history at Wheaton College. He has been an
elder in the Christian Reformed Church and the Orthodox
Presbyterian Church. He is currently a member of the
Orthodox Presbyterian Church’s Committee on Christian
Education.
He is the author of several books and articles, including
John Williamson Nevin: High Church Calvinist; A Secular
Faith: Why Christianity Favors the Separation of Church and
State; Seeking a Better Country: Three Hundred Years of
American Presbyterianism (co-author); Deconstructing Evangelicalism: Conservative Protestantism in

American Protestantism; That Old-Time Religion in Modern
America: Evangelical Protestantism in the Twentieth Century;
With Reverence and Awe: Returning to the Basics of Reformed
Worship (co-author); The University Gets Religion: Religious
Studies and American Higher Education; Fighting the Good
Fight: A Brief History of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church
(co-author); and Defending the Faith: J. Gresham Machen and
the Crisis of Conservative Protestantism in Modern America.
Dr. Hart lives in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of
Philadelphia with his wife, Ann.
