An Exposition of the Apostles' Creed An Exposition of the Apostles' Creed
by Caspar Olevanius, edited by R. Scott Clark

This new translation by Lyle Bierma, along with R. Scott Clark's historical introduction and editing, will benefit both scholarly and general readers.
Charged with federal language, an Exposition explains the Christian faith as the believer's fellowship with God in the covenant of grace. Thus, it is significant for its contribution to the development of Reformed covenantal theology. In addition to exhibiting its historical value within the Reformed tradition, readers will be 'directed,' as Olevianus had intended, 'toward edification in true and sound piety.'

Rule of Love by J.V. Fesko The Rule of Love: Broken, Fulfilled, and Applied
By J.V. Fesko

Westminster Seminary California’s newest faculty member and Academic Dean has just written a short, yet powerful series on The Ten Commandments entitled The Rule of Love. In The Rule of Love, J. V. Fesko gives an introductory exposition of the Ten Commandments. Beginning with the importance of the prologue, and then addressing each Commandment in turn, he sets forth a balanced and biblical approach that places the law in proper perspective. Throughout the book, Fesko analyzes the historical context of God's giving the law in order to help us accurately understand the moral demands God places upon humanity. Yet, Fesko does not stop there; he also discusses the covenantal and redemptive context in which the law was given. By doing so, he shows that the law is not presented to us in order for us to present ourselves right before God. Rather, it demonstrates our failure to love God as we should and points us to Christ and His perfect obedience in all that God requires of us. Fesko also shows how Christ applies the commandments to His people by the indwelling power and presence of the Holy Spirit. This is an excellent survey of the Ten Commandments that promises to bring about a more accurate understanding of the proper uses of the law, as well as engender profound gratitude for all that God is for us in Christ.

Counsel from the Cross by Dennis E. Johnson and Elyse Fitzpatrick Counsel from the Cross
By Elyse Fitzpatrick and Dennis E. Johnson

This book is co-authored by Elyse Fitzpatrick, Christian counselor and author, and Professor of Practical Theology, Dennis Johnson. With the evermore apparent failure of modern psychotherapies and a discomfort with pharmacological strategies, many churches are reaffirming the sufficiency and power of the Scriptures to change lives. To aid churches in ministering to broken and hurting people, the authors of Counsel from the Cross present a counseling model based on Scripture, powered by the work of the Wonderful Counselor, Jesus Christ. Through careful exegesis and helpful case studies, they demonstrate the why and the how of consistently biblical, gospel-centric counseling. The authors combined backgrounds one, a woman trained in biblical counseling and the other, a male professor of practical theology bring balance to this work, making it relevant for those who counsel as part of pastoral ministry and for those involved in friendship mentoring or discipleship.

John Calvin: Pilgrim and Pastor
by W. Robert Godfrey

July 10, 2009, marks the five-hundredth anniversary of the birth of John Calvin. His impact is unmistakable—a primary developer of western civilization whose life and work have deeply affected five centuries’ worth of pastors, scholars, and individuals. What will surprise the readers of this book, however, is that Calvin did not live primarily to influence future generations. Rather, he considered himself first and foremost a spiritual pilgrim and a minister of the Word in the church of his day. It was from that "essential" Calvin that all his influence flowed. Here is an introduction to the essential life and thought of one of history’s most influential theologians.
