Interlibrary Loan Services
Through interlibrary loan the library will supply materials that are not held
in its collection. The WSC library is able to obtain books and journal articles
through reciprocal borrowing with other libraries throughout the country.
Who can borrow? Interlibrary loan is
available for full-time students, faculty, and staff. Interlibrary loan
materials must be treated with care. Misuse or delayed return may compromise the
borrowing relationship between WSC and other libraries. If either infraction
occurs, a patron's interlibrary loan privileges may be revoked.
What can be borrowed? Monographs and journal
articles that are not a part of WSC's collection may be borrowed. Materials that
are easily borrowed include recent monographs, specific journal articles, and
modern reprints of early works. Materials that may be unobtainable include
reference books, rare manuscripts, some dissertations, microfilms, and special
collections.
How long does it take? When requesting an
Interlibrary loan resource, allow 5-10 business days for the item to arrive.
The lending period for books is usually 3 weeks. If you wish to renew an item,
contact the interlibrary loan coordinator at least 3 days before the book is
due. Requested journal articles are photocopied and may be kept.
Is there a charge? There is no charge to the
patron because the library absorbs the cost. Keep in mind that each
interlibrary loan book can cost up to $20 including labor, transaction fees, and
postage.
Is there a limit? Please order materials
judiciously. Students and staff may receive 15 items per semester. Faculty or
students completing a thesis are not subject to these restrictions. |
