R. Scott Clark Named Emeritus Professor of Church History and Historical Theology

Westminster Seminary California announces the retirement of the Rev. Dr. R. Scott Clark, Professor of Church History and Historical Theology, after twenty-nine years of faithful service to the Seminary. In recognition of his distinguished tenure, the Board of Trustees, at the unanimous recommendation of the faculty, has conferred upon Dr. Clark the honorable status of Emeritus Professor of Church History and Historical Theology, effective July 1, 2026, with all accompanying rights and privileges.

A graduate of Westminster Seminary California, where he studied from 1984 to 1987, Dr. Clark returned to join the faculty in 1997 as Assistant Professor of Church History, also serving as Academic Dean from 1997 to 2000 during an important period in the life of the institution. He was inaugurated Professor of Church History and Historical Theology in 2008 and served in that role for eighteen years. Through his teaching and scholarship, Dr. Clark has written in explanation and defense of the Reformed faith with boldness, precision, and deep insight, strengthening the church far beyond the Seminary’s campus. Through the Office Hours podcast, which he hosted and produced for twelve years across more than 200 episodes, he extended the Seminary’s teaching ministry to listeners around the world.

In its resolution of thanks adopted March 17, 2026, the faculty honored Dr. Clark as a teacher, mentor, and friend to generations of students and colleagues, and as an example of dedication to confessional Reformed theology in service to Christ, His gospel, and the church. The Seminary community extends its deep gratitude to Dr. Clark and prays that his labors will continue to bear fruit in the church for generations to come, and that the Lord will richly bless him and his wife, Barbara, in the years ahead.
