God’s Son, House Builder

Resident Faculty, Dennis E. Johnson   |   September 15, 2015   |   New Testament, Hebrews   |  Type: Morning Devotions Series, Hebrews

The second Old Testament quotation in Hebrews 1 is drawn from 2 Samuel 7, where we heard God’s covenant promise to David, to build David’s “house” (dynasty) and establish David’s throne forever, and to give David a son who will, in turn, build God’s “house” (temple). David’s immediate son, Solomon, did build a temple, but the full extent of God’s promise was only fulfilled by Jesus, who is building God’s house (God’s people, 3:3-6) and whose throne is forever (1:8).
