Perhaps you have received a photo message from a friend with the words, “Wish you were here!” Sometimes that message is clearly not sincere. Your “friend” is just rubbing it in that you’re missing out on all the fun. But sometimes the message is heart-felt and it comes from a soul-mate, who is truly pained that you are not there to take in the beauty of the moment. Love is never content with distance. Such is true of the final request in the Lord’s priestly prayer (John 17); that those he loves would be with him, forever, in glory.
